Installing the Hitch-Coupling Tightener

The Hitch-Coupling Tightener (Item #020.6) tightens the junction between the StowAway2 Cargo Carrier and your vehicle’s hitch, thereby securing the carrier onto your vehicle and eliminating any side-to-side vibration during use.

1. Slide the u-ring over your carrier’s frame with the open end facing downward.
2. Position the u-ring so that it is roughly 1-2 inches from the end of the hitch receiver as shown.
3. Slide the tightener plate up the open bars of the u-ring. The plate's lip should be pointed upward and pulled tight against the StowAway2 frame. The back side of the plate should rest underneath the hitch receiver as shown above.
4. Position one of the included washers directly under the metal plate on each bar of the u-ring.
5. Position one of the included lock rings directly under each washer.
6. Position one of the included nuts directly under each lock ring.
7. Tighten the nuts so that the metal plate is securely touching the carrier’s frame and the vehicle’s hitch. Tighten the nuts evenly to ensure that the carrier does not lean to one side or the other. Please note: It is recommended that you re-tighten the Hitch-Coupling Tightener approximately once a week during prolonged periods of use.
